In the Qing Dynasty, "gege" was sometimes also used to honor other women of noble status. For example, during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, the report of the Ministry of Internal Affairs referred to Sumalagu (the maid of Empress Xiaozhuang Wen, who raised Emperor Kangxi) as "Sumala Eniyegege". (sumala eniyegege) [2]
The daughters of nobles without formal titles can be called gege. (The Qing Dynasty Bai Lei Chao states: "The daughter of a prince is called a county princess, and the daughters of a county prince, Beizi, Beile, and Fuguogong are called county princesses. However, except for princesses, those who have the qualifications of county princesses or county princesses but do not have formal titles are all called gege. Most of the virgins below the second daughter are called gege. It is rare for the eldest daughter to not have a formal title.
